Think you're safe because you never shop online? Think again!

Protect your family!

This guy is probably not the one you need to worry about.

Only 11 percent of identity theft is carried out by electronic means, according to the latest statistics from the Federal Trade Commission. Even if you never touch a computer (which is absurd since you're probably reading this on a computer) you could still become a victim. Sadly, the statistics say that the receptionist at your dentist's office or the doorman in your building are more likely to steal your identity than is some Russian hacker with bad breath, lots of pimples and a goatee.

Even if you are sure that your paperwork and files are safely away from prying eyes, identity thieves keep getting more clever about obtaining your information. They can piece it together from going through your garbage or by peeking over your shoulder at the supermarket. Once they do get what they need, they will get to work quickly wrecking your life.

Do not get lulled into a false sense of security just because you are a computer guru whose computer is locked down tighter than a drum!

If you have fallen victim to identity theft, you know what a nightmare it can be. If you have not fallen victim consider yourself lucky, and please take every precaution. Prevention is the best medicine!
